If requested for a DB backup to be uploaded to ESS for a creation of a patch follow below;


NOTE: SIMs will be unavailable for ~30 mins while taking backup.


  1. Login to SIMs server
  2. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager
  3. Disable TCP/IP and Named Pipes network protocols for the SQL instance
  4. Restart SQL server service
  5. Open DBAttach from the SQL Server installation BIN directory: Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SIMS2014\MSSQL\Binn\DBAttach.exe
  6. Connect to SQL instance using SA account
  7. Detach the SIMS DB
  8. Once detached copy the .LDF and .MDF files to another location from: Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SIMS2014\MSSQL\DATA\SIMS.mdf/ldf
  9. In DBAttach reattach the SIMS database from: Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SIMS2014\MSSQL\DATA\SIMS.mdf
  10. In SQL Server Configuration Manager, re-enable the TCP/IP and Named Pipes network protocols
  11. Restart SQL server service
  12. SIMs will now be back online for users
  13. Using 7ZIP compress the 2 DB files in a .ZIP format and apply a secure password

  1. Install Filezilla client
  2. Connect to ESS FTP server at: 195.59.180.148
  3. Port: 22
  4. Username is the ESS ticket number
  5. Password will be supplied from ESS
  6. Connect to server
  7. Upload zipped backup into the 'To ESS' folder
  8. Notify ESS that the upload is complete
  9. They will request the password for the zip once received
